Check engine light & diagnostics in Pensacola & Pace

We test to pin down the cause before recommending a part, right where the car is parked.

A check engine light gives you a code, not a cause. The same code can come from a sensor, a wiring fault, a vacuum leak, or a part that has actually failed. Oilrun comes to your home or job in Pensacola or Pace, reads the codes, and then does the testing to pin down what's wrong, so you're less likely to pay for parts you don't need.

When to call

  • A steady check engine light. Get it checked soon, and stop driving if the car runs badly, overheats, or loses power.
  • A flashing check engine light, which usually means an active misfire. Stop driving and call; continuing can damage the catalytic converter.
  • Rough idle, hesitation, stalling, or noticeably worse fuel economy.
  • A light that came on right after a fill-up (often a loose gas cap or an EVAP leak).
  • Reduced-power mode, or a traction or stability light that came on with the check engine light.

What we do on-site

We connect a professional scan tool, pull the stored and pending codes, and read live data and freeze-frame values. From there we test the suspect circuit: smoke-testing the EVAP system for a purge valve or hose leak, scoping a camshaft or crankshaft position sensor signal, or swapping ignition coils to see whether a misfire follows the coil. Common repairs we finish the same visit include purge valves, camshaft position sensors, variable valve timing solenoids, throttle bodies, ignition coils, and spark plugs. If the fix isn't something we can do safely in a driveway, we'll say so plainly and tell you exactly what to ask for.

Pricing, fees, and warranty

The diagnostic fee is quoted upfront before we come out, and it pays for the testing, not just reading the code. Once we know the cause you get a free written quote for the repair, and we get your OK before any extra work. Any trip fee is quoted upfront too. We take credit, debit, tap to pay, Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, or cash, with no card fees. Repairs we perform carry a 30-day limited labor warranty. Diagnosis itself isn't warrantied, because it finds the likely cause rather than guaranteeing an outcome. See Our Limited Warranty for the full terms.

FAQ

Common questions

A parts store read my code for free. Why pay for diagnostics?

The free scan gives you the code. Diagnostics tells you which of several possible causes it is. Replacing parts by code alone is a common way people end up spending more than the diagnostic would have cost.

Can you just clear the light?

We can, but if the fault is still there the light will come back. We clear it after the repair and confirm the car's self-tests are running again.

Is the diagnostic fee separate from the repair?

The diagnostic and the repair are quoted separately in writing, so you know both numbers before you say yes to anything.
